Symmetry

Symmetrical design, or symmetrical balance, is a concept where both sides of something mirror one another. If you cut a symmetrical design in half, one side would be identical to the other side. When you create symmetrical art, all areas attract an equal amount of attention.

Here’s why symmetry is useful in graphic design:

  1. Balance and Harmony: Symmetrical designs create a sense of balance and harmony. When elements on one side of an axis mirror those on the other side, it can give a pleasing and stable feel to the composition.
  2. Visual Organization: Symmetry helps in organizing information and creating a clear structure in designs. This is especially important when designing things like brochures, posters, or websites.
  3. Attention and Focus: Symmetry can direct the viewer’s attention to the centre of the design, making it a useful technique for emphasizing key elements or messages.
  4. Professionalism: Many businesses and organizations use symmetrical designs because they are often associated with a professional and organized look.
  5. Classic and Timeless: Symmetry has been a design principle for centuries and is often considered timeless. It can give a sense of tradition and elegance to a design.
  6. Versatility: Symmetry can be adapted in various ways, such as vertical, horizontal, radial, or bilateral symmetry, making it a versatile tool for different design purposes.

Repeat and Rotate

– for this assignment, we had to make two photos one demonstrating shapes put together, and then another demonstrating symmetry.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES
–I used symmetry to make my design good by using an image that stands out.
– I could make it bigger and make the background the same color.

I used the object detection tool to select the image I wanted to choose. Then I duplicated the image, put the two images together, and then blended them so there were no gaps.
